Historical Faming

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to antique items. I have fond memories of my dad and I perusing antique bazaars for hours and coming home with beautiful little pieces. When I first came across Florentine plaques, I was drawn to their classical appearance, reminiscent of a historical time of grandeur and opulence.

These plaques emulate the Renaissance tradition, inlaid with intricate gilt designs on wood. These historical decorative plaques are imitating the 1865 Museum of Decorative Arts in the Bargello, where Victorian tourists would visit to purchase their own piece of Florence.

Conserving and preparing each plaque and frame is a process I really enjoy as an artist. I feel connected to the tourists who purchased these items, brought them into their homes, and displayed them proudly. These plaques are special pieces, and housed in them are one of a kind paintings, all painted directly onto the plaque’s surface.

I also collect Italian brass frames which I will occasionally frame small oil paintings in. All paintings housed in the brass frames are stamped “made in Italy” and are reminiscent of the baroque style.

I do my very best to ensure that each frame is structurally sound and suitable for display, but please expect signs of wear and patina, which contribute to their character.
